Quote of the Day: Shel Silverstein

"Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be."

Learning From Hollywood Stars That Have Panic Disorders

from:

Reading about Hollywood stars that have panic disorders can help the average person realize that panic attacks can happen to anyone. In fact, they can happen to the stars at the worst times like when getting ready to go on stage. Having a panic disorder is not unusual and it’s not something that happens to just a particular group of people. Children, teenagers, men, women, senior citizens, housewives, business associates and Hollywood stars can all have panic disorders.

It’s interesting to read about Hollywood stars that have panic disorders. They freely admit that they can occur at the least likely moments and can even be embarrassing. Hollywood celebrities always like to look their best and appear to be calm, cool and collected. A panic attack caught on film can change that appearance quickly. The stories of Hollywood stars that have panic disorders include the following.

• Sitting on a plane and being overcome with panic
• On stage and suddenly panicking and forgetting words to lines or songs
• Having panic attacks as teenagers
• Experiencing panic attacks about general celebrity status

Panic disorders are not tied to a particular event. In many cases, the Hollywood stars that have panic disorders do not have attacks on stage. That’s because stage fright is an anxiety disorder directly attributable to the act of going on stage. Though panic attacks can happen on stage for a star, it’s not necessarily related to anything happening on stage. There’s a long list of Hollywood stars that have panic disorders and don’t mind talking about them. These stars include Johnny Depp, Nicholas Cage, Clay Aiken, Penelope Cruz and many others.

When Hollywood stars that have panic disorders talk about their experiences, it can go a long way towards helping every one with panic disorders cope. People can be embarrassed about their condition and avoid getting help or talking about the attacks. Yet getting treatment is exactly what they should be doing. When celebrities bring the issue to the media, it raises awareness of the existence of panic disorders and promotes a better understanding.

The fact is that panic disorders among people are common. It’s the mental health condition most frequently diagnosed. Almost 40 million people experience panic disorders which is approximately 15% of the U.S. population. Hollywood stars are just as likely to experience panic disorders as anyone else. But for the average person, knowing a celebrity experiences the same problems and still learns to excel in the public eye can be very inspiring.

So if you have a panic disorder, just remember that you are never alone. There are many people, both famous and not famous, who are getting treatment for panic disorders.
